Alt om Håndarbejde Festival 2016

Who doesn’t love a good yarn festival? An oppourtunity to be surrounded by knitty bretheren, perusing new and unusual fibres and fabrics, and generally indulging in fevered excitement about sticks and string! There’s surely no better way to spend a Saturday in Danish February. That’s what me and Michelle (fellow yarn lover and crochet/cross stitch addict of the Zhelle blog ) got up to at the weekend, when it was once again time for the Alt om Håndarbejde (trans.”Everything about Craft”- a Danish magazine) festival in Copenhagen.

There were yarn and craft shops from all over Denmark, and we spent a very satisfying day ooh-ing and ahh-ing over all the lovely yarn and crafty THINGS! The first stall I headed to was Yarn Lovers , a relatively new Danish-based online shop selling indie dyed wooly deliciousness from the likes of Madeleine Tosh and Three Irish Girls. Needless to say I got my hands on a skein of Tosh Merino Light in the Magic colourway, which I was considering keeping just keeping as a kind of squishy pet, but which I am now using to brighten up these winter days and knit the stripey bit of the Funky Grandpa Cardigan by La Maison Rililie on Ravelry.

Things I also succumbed to at the festival were silvery charm stitch markers in the shape of spinning wheels and knitty things from På Pindene, and a piece of fabric that put a smile on my face from Sy og Rens. Their stall was beautifully arranged with jewel-like fabrics in baskets organised by colour- it was like a garden of fabric and I was delighted to discover that they are based near to where I live.

I hope you’re enjoying your projects this week and maybe you have some exciting yarny festivals in your part of the world- I’d love to hear about them!

Until next time, Happy Knitting!

Hi, I am a weaver and knitter living in Canada. I will be visiting Denmark at the end of May early June and would like to see local weaving studios, museums, shops that sell weaving yarn. I did see your post about yarn shops, a great help. Thanks for any information. Pam
