I’m in a still and quiet mood this week on the blog after a few weeks of a creative knitting rush, where I’ve been full of ideas and projects and not enough hands to do them all. I get excited about colours and textures, start one project after another, and soon wooly projects seem to be taking over the flat and I even start dreaming I’m sitting in knitting workshops asking for design tips. So, there are a LOT of works in progress this week- lets get started!
This is the “Hyrna” Classic Icelandic Shawl kit I bought from Guðrún Bjarnadóttir at the weekend. i LOVE knitting this so much! Her Hespa plant dyed yarns are in such gorgeous soft colours (I love this rhubarb root pink) and it’s a lovely simple garter stitch design with just a few yarn overs for shaping. Only just started this, but can’t put it down now!

I’m also continuing on the Big Waffle scarf by Susan Ashcroft in my BFL handspun. I’ve only picked it up now and again this week but love the design and can’t wait to wear it now autumn has arrived. The waffle pattern is just starting to come out and feels sooo cosy :)
I’ve also been working on socks a lot- I have 2 projects to share this week. First my Outlander sock pattern I’m working on which has really been my focus recently. I’ve completed the charts for the toe and heel decreases and the socks are almost complete! here’s another teaser :)
My other socks I started this week are happy vanilla socks for my sister. I’m knitting them in Araucania Ranco sock yarn which is a 75% merino, 25% polyamide blend. I bought a whole load of this gorgeous soft yarn in a sale a few weeks ago in different colours and it’s knitting up pretty fast on 3mm needles!
I don’t have much on the spinning wheel this week, as I’ve been experimenting with creating some wobbly fat singles and slub yarn. I’m also reconsidering the manos roving sweater project as I’m not sure the yarn I’ve made will be very nice as a sweater. I made a 2 ply yarn which blends the colours a lot more than I think I was aiming for:
See what I mean? I love the colours in it, but feel they don’t stand alone as much as I wanted. I will probably use this for a hat or something. What I like so much about the roving is the way the colours run into and complement each other:
So I’m going back to the spinning wheel to try and make fat singles instead- that way, without the plying of two colour strands together, I hope I’ll keep the watercolour effect and create a yarn I like.
What’s on your needles this week? I’d love to hear about your projects! Leave a comment below.
Happy Knitting!
