Happy New Year! I took a bit of an unplanned break from writing over the holidays- with 2 weeks of family time, catching up, and a sad goodbye to one of our very beloved family cats, it was a time of mixed emotions. We had lovely but very quiet new year, which was just what was needed, and I’ve been really enjoying knitting the truly effortless Effortless Cardigan by Hannah Fettig, which proved to be the perfect TV/holding conversations/gentle on the brain project when I needed it most. I now have just one sleeve and the ribbed band to go!
This was a gift to myself at the end of the Christmas gift knitting. It was great to see everyone trying on their new knits I’d been working on the last few months- they were all very much appreciated, and luckily everything fit perfectly. So as it’s not top secret any more, I can now reveal that I knit…
- 1 Snowcloud shrug (for my sis)
- 1 stripey Chunkeanie hat (for my man)
- 1 Bárðarbunga volcano hat and a Glücksburg cowl (sis in law)
- Custom fit socks (photo below) and an improvised cat-in-law rendered in knit for my dad-in-law (photo of cat is pre sewn-on face).
I also did some gift spinning for the knitters- soft pink aran weight 2ply merino for my mum-in-law to knit a cowl, and the major 500g dk weight 2ply maroon merino for my mum to knit a cardigan. I can’t wait to see how their projects turn out!
At the start of each new year I think of something positive and realistic I’d like to achieve in the coming year, and focusing on this intention I pick an angel card to give me the theme I will be working with this year. My positive knitting resolution this year is to prioritise (a challenge for me!) and to publish 6 new designs. The angel I picked for this year was POWER- a theme I find quite challenging and scary, but wow- it’s also a big resource of energy to take into my projects this year!

POWER to you, Rosie, in 2015. Can’t wait to see those new designs. I am not a knitter, as you know, but I get inspiration for craft projects from reading your blog and seeing the marvellous colours in the photos. I recently went to Cyprus and my New Year’s resolution is to make a Roman mosaic paving stone for my garden.
I love the idea of that Roman mosaic :)
Wow, that’s a lot of Christmas presents you have been knitting. And such lovely things, too! I especially like the Glücksburg cowl. But then again, I seem to be having a feeble for cowls/scarves etc. :)
I actually have two New Year’s resolutions:
1. Practice knitting stranded colourwork and
2. Decrease my wool stash.
And my boyfriend has already ordered the first thing for me to practice the stranded colourwork technique. Oh dear. I’ve just posted something about it on the blog in case you’re curious.
6 Designs in one year sounds exciting btw. I already look forward to seeing what those will be!

I would like to learn how to steek. I think I am going to knit a tea cosy with the Tilly Trout group because there is a colorwork cosy with sheep on it that would be a good learning project..
Is it a tea cosy? Anything with sheep on sounds pretty awesome to me :) I am also about to undergo my first steeking project- I understand it’s an equally scary and satisfying experience :) There’s lots of guides on the net as I’m sure you’ve already seen, and I’ll also make a blog post when I cut into my sweater!
